Alex Gibson, from Blackpool, entered the water in the early hours of Friday morning after spotting a man in trouble in the sea, LancsLive reports.
Alex jumped into the sea close to Blackpool’s North Pier at around 4.20am on Friday (July 30) to help the struggling man but, in turn, got into difficulty himself.
Emergency services rushed to help Alex with HM Coastguard Fleetwood, HM Coastguard Lytham, RNLI Fleetwood, RNLI Blackpool, and a Coastguard rescue helicopter all looking for the young man. READ MORE : Man stabbed after mass brawl breaks
