fairground worker tragically died after falling while fixing a Ferris wheel at an amusement park. Robert Sanger, 62, plummeted to his death on Monday (May 2) at around 10.30am (local time) at Gillian’s Wonderland Pier in Ocean City, New Jersey, USA.The Cargo Tech International subcontractor fell from a lift whilst working on the attraction.
Ocean City Fire Department EMTs were called to the amusement park at 10.32am, according to city spokesperson Doug Bergen. He was rushed to the nearby Shore Medical Center where he was sadly pronounced dead.
City officials said that the horrific incident is being investigated by the federal Occupational Safety and Health Administration, according to The Press of Atlantic City.So far, it isn't clear how Sanger came to fall from the lift.
Jay Gillian, both president of Gillian’s Wonderland Pier and Mayor of Ocean City, confirmed Sanger's passing in a statement.
