Tragedy as Scots woman dies age 27 after long battle with cystic fibrosis

Tributes have been paid to a courageous young Scots woman after her death following a long fight with cystic fibrosis. Following her tragic death on October 15, Shannon Sweeney, 27, has been described as a 'character' who was loved by everyone she met.

Loved ones of the massive Elton John fan, from Rutherglen, remembered her online for her sense of humour and outgoing personality.

Family friend Mandy Lafferty, who sadly lost her own daughter to the disease in 2018, has since launched a fundraiser to help pay for funeral costs.

Speaking to the Record she said: "Shannon was very outgoing and had the best sense of humour. She was really well liked within the cystic fibrosis community and the nurses.
