Tottenham are interested in signing West Ham star Issa Diop in the transfer market. However, they have been turned off by the extravagant asking price that has been placed on the centre-back.
Jose Mourinho has plans to rebuild the defence at Spurs with several holes needing to be plugged. A right-back is top of the order and Norwich’s Max Aarons appears to be the frontrunner.
But a centre-back is also needed, with Jan Vertonghen coming to the end of his time in north London. The Belgium international will be out of contract by the summer after eight years at the club.
It will leave Davinson Sanchez and Toby Alderweireld as the only two senior defenders, while Eric Dier can operate there as well as 21-year-old Japhet Tanganga.
