Deadline reports. The Broadway League, which produces the Tony Awards along with the American Theatre Wing, announced the nominations last October.
At the time, awards officials said the virtual ceremony would happen sometime in 2020. But as the year dragged on, that timeline became less and less feasible, The pandemic’s shuttering of theatrers has also shortened the list of nominees.
In one extreme example, Aaron Tveit from “Moulin Rouge! The Musical” is the only actor nominated in the category of Leading actor in a musical.
