Tiger Woods is "awake and responsive" following his horror car crash, as his team release a statement from hospital praising staff for their efforts.
The golf legend was hospitalised with "multiple leg injuries" after the car crash, which required him to be cut out of his overturned vehicle with an axe in California.
Rescue teams had to pry him from the wreckage after his car swerved into an oncoming lane then struck a curb and a tree as it careened off the road and down an embankment, authorities said.
Los Angeles County Sheriff Alex Villanueva said the dad-of-two was "lucky to be alive". In a statement released via his official account it was said that the star suffered 'significant' injuries that needed emergency surgery.
