Southgate will have been looking for an immediate reaction, but the visitors struggled to come to grips with the press from Germany.England's defenders and Jordan Pickford were not given a moment to breathe in possession, with Kai Havertz and Jamal Musiala among those to lead the charge.
More often than not in the opening stages, the visitors were forced to send the ball long which led to Germany enjoying the best of the early exchanges.It did not result in a goal, with neither side breaking the deadlock ahead of the interval.
However, England looked uncomfortable on numerous occasions in possession before settling into their rhythm as the first-half drew to a close.There is an embarrassment of riches to pick from at right-back, but Southgate is otherwise facing a selection headache in defence.
