Edouard Mendy after the goalkeeper was forced off at half-time in Chelsea’s 2-1 final day defeat to Aston Villa.Mendy did not return for the second half at Villa Park after colliding with the post while attempting to deny Bertrand Traore’s opener for the hosts.
Kepa Arrizabalaga replaced Mendy at half-time, leading to speculation that the Spaniard could start next weekend’s Champions League final against Man City.
Tuchel confirmed after the match that Mendy has sustained a rib injury and that Chelsea will do everything possible to ensure he is fit for the final in Porto. “It is easy to explain, he fell into the frame of the net,” Tuchel said in his post-match press conference. "He feels a big pain in his ribs.
