Local Data Company on behalf of accountancy firm PwC have revealed.It’s a sobering statistic – that’s nearly 50 shops a day - and we’ve seen it play out before our very eyes; former Debenhams, John Lewis and Topshop stores now sit empty from Sheffield to Exeter, without new tenants to breathe life back into them.It would seem that the brutal combination of the pandemic and the so-called ‘Retail Apocalypse’ (a phrase that refers to the effect of internet shopping on brick-and-mortar stores and shopping malls) continues to wreak havoc on our high streets.
