I think she’s saying, ‘You can channel the essence of what a twinset is, but don’t necessarily wear one’. This is pretty sound advice that can be applied to all kinds of items one feels one wants to wear, because one has seen someone iconic from another era wear it (in my case that’s nearly always Grace Kelly).
Wear it. Do it. But your own way.Katie Holmes did just that in 2019 when she reinvented the twinset as a V-neck boyfriend cardigan with a matching knitted bra.
There was not a scintilla of frump, twee or retro cuteness in that look. It went viral – pinned to a million digital moodboards – but, surprise, surprise, you didn’t see it around that much in real life.
