It comes amid a rise in cases in the region of the Delta variant first identified in India. Health secretary Matt Hancock has announced that Greater Manchester will be handed "a strengthened package of support" to tackle the spread of the variant of concern, which will include additional testing and assistance from the military.
On top of these additional measures, the government is urging people in Greater Manchester to follow stricter guidelines to protect themselves and others from the virus.
