The Masked Singer fans have been racking their brains trying to identify the celebrity behind the Mushroom costume. Mushroom opened the series on New Year’s Day with a captivating performance of Its Oh So Quiet by Icelandic pop star Björk and has been a fan favourite ever since. The character spoke about "doing serious work" and a love for "trying new things" in the videotape, with a distinctly feminine voice and a northern English accent, but judges were baffled when Mushroom began to sing.As Mushroom belted out the 1995 classic there was a definite Irish twang in their voice, which threw the judges and the audience off the scent.

Judge Davina McCall was convinced that Mushroom’s hidden celebrity must come from Ireland, sparking speculation towards Irish comedian Aisling Bea.

During Saturday’s episode, Mushroom took to the stage to sing There Are Worse Things I Could Do from 70s musical rom-com Grease, but the judges still couldn’t figure them out.Mushroom gave them a few cryptic clues, saying they needed to ‘get up earlier and dig deeper if they want to catch me out’ and that they’ve been ‘lucky to be able to leave my forest and plant myself in lots of exciting places far from home.’A puzzled Rita Ora attempted to guess their identity and suggested The Saturdays singer Rochelle Humes, while Davina McCall guessed Loose Women icon Jane McDonald.

Mo Gilligan offered up Corrie actress Kym Marsh due to the ‘Yorkshire vibes’ and Jonathan Ross went for Joanna Lumley.Another potential Irish candidate could be one of the Derry Girls from the Channel 4 comedy show, particularly Siobhan McSweeney who plays Sister Michael.
