The 12 most infected areas in England where coronavirus cases are still rising

Twelve of the 100 most infected local authorities in England are still seeing their coronavirus case rates rise. Data released by Public Health England shows that case rates were down in 281 local areas in the seven days to January 18, compared to the week before.

Unfortunately, 32 places are now seeing their case rates rise again - up from just 14 three days before. Of that 32, 12 are among the 100 areas with the highest number of cases per person in England.

They are Walsall (741.6 cases per 100,000 people, up from 737.4/100,000), Redditch (717.8 from 591.1), Worcester (687.6 from 676.7), Dudley (682.5 from 647.4), Hyndburn (668.8 from 688.5) and South Staffordshire (592.3 from 576.3).
