A terrified student convinced a gunman was "emptying classrooms" made an emotional goodbye call to her parents after shots were fired at a West Sussex college.
Yesterday afternoon terror swept through Crawley College when a gunman, who was also armed with a knife, stabbed one college lecturer in the hand and fired blanks from a black pistol directly at another, student witnesses claimed.
While no one was badly injured, panicky rumours quickly circulated around the college after the shots rang out. One student was in the hallway when she overheard a huddle of teachers talking about someone walking around with a gun.
The 18-year-old, who asked to remain anonymous, called her mum to let her know about the potential threat before rushing back
