weather will get even balmier across the UK this week after the record for the hottest day of 2022 was broken, say forecasters.A new bar was set for the rest of the year yesterday (June 15) when the Met Office recorded an impressive 28C at St James Park in central London — but it looks like this might be topped again in just a matter of hours. Some forecasters are even predicting sweltering highs of 34C on Friday (June 17), which is only four degrees shy of the all-time UK record.Met Office Deputy Chief Meteorologist, Jason Kelly, said; “The heat is a result of a mix of home-grown warming due to a high pressure over the southern half of the UK, as well as a south westerly airflow bringing warm air, which has been over continent through the week, across the country.”“This is the first spell of hot weather this year and it is unusual for temperatures to exceed these values in June. "Some areas may see warm nights with minimum temperatures expected to be in the high teens or even low 20Cs overnight, especially in urban areas such as London.”The scorching outlook has seen a high street bookies cut the odds on this June ending as the hottest on record, from 4-5 to 1-2, with it now also 6-4 that the UK's highest ever UK temperature of 38.7C is broken this month.Coral spokesman John Hill said: "Not only do we make it long odds-on for Friday to be the hottest day of the year so far, the odds continue to be slashed on this month ending as a record hot June the UK""This glorious spell of weather has prompted support in our betting for the UK's highest ever temperature of 38.7C being broken this month," he added. For the latest breaking news and stories from across the globe from the Daily Star, sign up for our newsletter by clicking.
