Teen, 18, killed by collapsing beach sand hole he dug with sister now in hospital

Only the younger of the two siblings from Maine could be rescued in time by police who were called to the barrier island of Toms River around 4pm.Using only frisbees, the teenagers managed to dig a 10ft pit in the sand which tragically collapsed on both of them.
The girl is being treated in hospital. Toms River Police said in a statement that a number of emergency crews attended the scene.A spokesperson said: "On Tuesday, May 17, 2022, at approximately 4:09 PM, multiple police and EMS units were dispatched to the beach entrance near Seaview Road on the barrier island for reports of two teens trapped in the sand."The family was visiting from out of town and spent the afternoon at the beach.
