With fears over pupils falling behind, the Department for Education is reportedly 'considering' putting on extracurricular activities and out-of-hours classes and reducing the long summer holidays.Schools Minister Nick Gibb told MPs today that he was 'open to all ideas', adding 'we just have to leave no stone unturned' when it comes to catch-up plans.But parents and teachers have shown little support for the suggestions, saying we already have 'burnt out kids and burnt out teachers' and extending the school day and shortening the summer break would do more harm.
