A group of year 7 pupils were made to line up on their knees to have the lengths of their skirts checked. Girls at the Brighton Secondary College in Brighton East, Melbourne, were asked to line up by a female teacher.
They were asked to get on their knees to see if the bottom of their skirts touched the ground, the Herald Sun reported. The incident caused outrage among parents with more than 150 reportedly commenting on social media on a now deleted thread.
Some hit out at the incident as “patriarchal” and a “demeaning and archaic act of public shaming”. The school has since apologised and said the incident does not reflect its values.
