NYPD orders character actors task force after Steve Buscemi slugging in ‘SNL’ season finale
homeless man slugged longtime Adam Sandler sidekick Steve Buscemi earlier this month.Host Jake Gyllenhaal as a police sergeant took inspiration from the random attack on a Brooklyn street to kickstart the new task force for the easily recognizable, but indistinguishable actors, dubbed the “Organization to Hinder Harmful Incidents in Manhattan,” or, “Oh, him.”“Summer is coming up and we are seeing an increase in random acts of violence across our streets. Just this week, national treasure Steve Buscemi was punched while walking through Kips Bay,” Gyllenhaal said at a press conference in perfect imitation of a born-and-raised New York cop.“These types of attacks cannot and will not be tolerated,” he added.Buscemi’s attacker socked him in the face on the morning of May 8 — causing the former FDNY firefighter to suffer “bleeding to his eye, swelling, bruising, and substantial pain” — before casually walking awayWhile jarring, the incident is far from isolated — it comes three years after Rick Moranis was punched while walking on the Upper West Side, and just one month after Buscemi’s “Boardwalk Empire” co-star Michael Stuhlbarg was also randomly targeted by a rock-welding homeless man on the Upper East Side.“Oh, that guy!” the crowd of journalists cooed as Stuhlbarg’s face came up on the NYPD screen, with Heidi Gardner adding that she could never place his name: “I always want to call him Tom something.”Gyllenhaal brought the focus back to the issue at hand: that “character actors are being targeted.”“Simply put, it’s actors whose faces you can remember, names you cannot,” he explained.“So when you may be a character actor if you’ve ever been on the TV show Boardwalk Empire.

Sunday night live: Dua Lipa gets Times Square levitating after hosting ‘SNL’
Dua Lipa had all that Mermaid Barbie training. The Grammy-winning songstress — who had a tail of a cameo in last summer’s “Barbie” blockbuster —needed all of her water-nymph powers as she presided over a rain-soaked Times Square on Sunday night in a surprise pop-up performance that still had fans braving the elements to dance the night away.It completed the Dua Lipa NYC takeover this weekend to launch her third album, “Radical Optimism,” which included her serving as host and musical guest on “Saturday Night Live.”And certainly, some “Radical Optimism” was needed to brighten up a cold, soggy Cinco de Mayo that felt more like Cinco de Marzo.Even the diva’s dad, Dukagjin Lipa, knew it — the former Kosovan crooner handed out $2 bills for good luck to guests as he was entering the VIP area.“New York!” the British-Albanian singer exclaimed as she took the stage inside of a trailer parked at the corner of 43rd Street and Seventh Avenue.Flipping her burgundy-tinted tresses like the former model she is — while safely covered from any hair-busting bursts from the skies — she launched into “Training Season” like a well-conditioned pro as her mammoth likeness took over the Nasdaq and Amex jumbotrons.Welcome to Dua Square. It was certainly a feat to get the crowd — which stretched all the way to 47th Street — levitating to any degree.“Thank you for braving the rain and the cold,” Lipa, 28, said. And for her next trick, Lipa performed “Houdini” — the first single from “Radical Optimism” — which possesses the same kind of dance-pop magic she has been crafting since her 2017 breakout hit “New Rules.”Then Lipa shifted into midtempo mode for the “Radical Optimism” closer “Happy for You,” which seems determined to prove that she can do more

Ryan Gosling and Emily Blunt draw line under Barbenheimer with Taylor Swift cover on SNL
Ryan Gosling and Emily Blunt have drawn a line under their Barbenheimer experiences by performing a duet of Taylor Swift’s ‘All Too Well’ on Saturday Night Live.Gosling, who played Ken in Barbie, was hosting the episode of SNL, and was joined in the opening monologue by Blunt, who played Kitty in Oppenheimer. The two, who are also co-starring in the new action comedy The Fall Guy, reflected on the difficulty in moving past such a huge phenomenon. “You know, when you play a character that hard, that long, just letting go feels like a breakup and for processing a breakup, there’s really only one thing that can help – the music of the great Taylor Swift,” said Gosling. With that, they launched into their adapted version of ‘All Too Well’, complete with choreographed backing dancers and scenery referencing both films.“I was just Ken, and now I’m just Ryan,” sang Gosling, with Blunt adding: “I used to be the alcoholic wife of a dude in a hat / Talking to Albert Einstein / Sipping a margarita / With some Christopher Nolan and a bag of vodkila”.See the sketch below:Gosling ended weeks of uncertainty by showing up at the Oscars last month and performing a showstopping version of ‘I’m Just Ken’, alongside Mark Ronson and Slash.Since then, Ronson has reflected on the legacy of the song, which he co-wrote and produced.
