IDLES have reflected on their third album ‘Ultra Mono’, saying they “lost the essence of our intentions as a band” while writing the 2020 record.The band were speaking to NME for a new Big Read feature about the ‘Ultra Mono’ follow-up ‘CRAWLER’, released last week (November 12) via Partisan.In the piece, the band described ‘CRAWLER’ as a reaction to ‘Ultra Mono’, and that the band “lost control of our narrative” on last year’s album.“For me, IDLES has always been about subverting expectations,” guitarist Mark Bowen told NME.

IDLES have discussed the themes behind new album ‘CRAWLER’, and how trauma and taking accountability inspired the band’s fourth album.‘CRAWLER’ came out last Friday (November 12) via Partisan, and frontman Joe Talbot and guitarist/producer Mark Bowen spoke to NME for a new Big Read cover feature about the record.Discussing how the album is a reaction to their third album, 2020’s ‘Ultra Mono’, Talbot said: “The frustration and the alienation made us realise what we were doing wrong. I realised that I needed to start holding myself accountable for my mis-translations in what I wanted to say and what I was actually saying in the songs.”He added: “I was in therapy for two years, and it made me realise that I was angry at the wrong people.

IDLES frontman Joe Talbot has said the band will no longer play ‘Model Village’ live.The single, which featured on their 2020 album ‘Ultra Mono‘, makes scathing comments against small-town mindsets.Now speaking in this week’s NME Big Read, Talbot explained why the band won’t be playing the track again.“I don’t want to perform ‘Model Village’ live, because I’m not in that place any more,” he said. “I’m not defensive, I’m not angry.

IDLES are the latest act to share a Metallica cover as part of the expansive 52-track tribute album, ‘The Metallica Blacklist’.The English post-punk band have optioned a version of ‘The God That Failed’, making them the first act thus far on the ‘Blacklist’ to cover that song. It’s taken, as with all the songs on the compilation, from Metallica’s self-titled 1991 album – best known as ‘The Black Album’.

IDLES have announced that they’re set to play an afternoon headline set at next week’s Wide Awake festival in South London.The band will take to the stage at 1.30pm in Brockwell Park, before the likes of Daniel Avery and Black Midi play sets later in the day.The one-day London festival, which has been organised by a number of the founders of Field Day, had been hoping to debut in 2020 but it was forced to push back its plans due to the coronavirus pandemic.Now, the inaugural event will take place next Friday (September 3), and also feature Shame, Self Esteem, Porridge Radio and more.

IDLES‘ Jon Beavis has completed a 104km charity run in support of women’s organisations Rosa and Reclaim These Streets.The band’s drummer raised more than £5,500 and said the challenge was tough and thanked the “generous people” who donated.He took part in the run just weeks after Sarah Everard’s body was in found woodland in Kent.Beavis told BBC News: “When the news of Sarah Everard came up, I think it shocked a lot of guys I know because we’re almost blind to it.”Throughout April he often ran with female friends who shared their stories along the way.“It was a conversation that needed to be more in the limelight and doing it for this whole month kept it in that limelight,” he added.The last few weeks have shone a light on many shocking

IDLES have confirmed their live return this summer, with the band set to play two separate shows on September 3.The Bristol punks will perform a special afternoon set at the inaugural edition of London’s Wide Awake festival, before travelling back to their native city for a huge homecoming show at Clifton Downs.Tickets for Wide Awake Festival are currently available, while the Bristol show will go on general sale from 9AM on Friday (April 2).“We can’t wait to see you all again,” said IDLES.
