Steve Bing died at the age of 55 on Monday after reportedly taking his own life. The film producer was worth a fortune after inheriting around $600million (£480million) from his grandfather and forging a career in Hollywood with his firm Shangri-La Entertainment.
He was often compared to the enigmatic protagonist of F. Scott Fitzgerald's novel The Great Gatsby thanks to his secretive lifestyle.
Bing was the father of Liz Hurley's son Damian and he had a number of famous friends, including Warren Beatty, Mick Jagger and Playboy founder Hugh Hefner.
As well as a romance with Hurley, Bing's girlfriends included Naomi Campbell, Uma Thurman, Sharon Stone and Farrah Fawcett. But he preferred the bachelor lifestyle and for nine years lived alone
