Premier League clubs may be giving Usain Bolt a call this weekend as chiefs are reportedly lining up specially trained sprinter stewards in an attempt to tackle the issue of pitch invasions. There have been several incidents across the top flight and the football league this week which have prompted an emergency meeting where plans have been set out.

According to the Daily Mail, Prem clubs have been told they need to use 'pitch runners', who will be solely tasked with stopping fans who make a break for it.

They must have footwear with 'the best grip for the conditions' and should be facing the play at all times so they're ready to race on at any given moment.Clubs have also been instructed to identify the 'highest threat areas' to protect players and officials.

Crystal Palace boss Patrick Vieira was left isolated while Everton fans invaded the Goodison Park turf on Thursday (May 19), leading to an altercation between him and a supporter. There must be plans in place for clearing the pitch 'in a safe, controlled manner' in order to avoid more unsavoury scenes on the final day of the season on Sunday, with the title race and relegation battle both still alive.
