Southampton fans have been mocked after the club's players completed a lap of honour to an 'empty stadium' following their loss to Liverpool.The Saints were beaten 2-1 at St.
Mary's on Tuesday night in their final home match of the season, with goals from Takumi Minamino and Joel Matip completing a comeback victory for Liverpool.
Due to Southampton's final match of the season coming away to Leicester City on Sunday, the players completed a lap of honour at full-time.However, the vast majority of supporters in the stadium had already left their seats once the players and their families began making their way around the pitch.As a result, rival supporters have flocked to social media to mock the club's fans, including one who tweeted: "Lovely Southampton fans not staying for their players lap of honour with their families, the grounds empty."Another added: "I reckon 17 Southampton fans stayed for end of season lap of honour after.
They were gutless tonight." Whilst a third wrote: "Southampton doing a lap of honour to about 7 fans here! There’s more players on the pitch than fans in the stand!!"One more fan also tweeted: "Imagine doing a lap of honour for the final home game and no fucker has stayed behind...
