Shops, hair salons and gyms to reopen in April under Boris Johnson's lockdown roadmap

Shops, hairdressers, barbers, gyms and pools are set to reopen on April 12, the government has announced. The 'non-essential' shops and leisure facilities will finally open their doors again as lockdown begins to ease.

However social distancing and Covid safety rules will have to be in place before businesses, including salons and nail bars, can reopen.

People growing weary of their shaggy lockdown mops will have to wait at least seven weeks longer for hairdressers to reopen.

A typically tousled-haired Boris Johnson drew chuckles in the House of Commons as he told MPs haircuts would be allowed again soon.
