Shaun Wright-Phillips explains why he snubbed Arsenal transfer for Chelsea move

Shaun Wright-Phillips admits he moved to Chelsea instead of Arsenal in 2005 because the Gunners wanted to wait until January to seal the deal.

The Manchester City academy graduate was much in demand before he headed to Stamford Bridge. The Blues parted with £21m to sign Wright-Phillips in July 2005, but Arsenal wanted to wait a further six months before signing the player.

The now 38-year-old concedes he was fearful an injury could've seen him miss out had he waited for the Gunners which made his mind up for him.
