Secondary schools are being told to set up on-site Covid testing when pupils return after Christmas. The Department for Education has written to school leaders urging them to order supplies to make sure they have enough for each pupil to have a lateral flow test in January.

Pupils will then be expected to take another test at home three to four days later. The testing is something secondaries have done before, turning school halls and other available spaces into testing zones with booths and mirrors set up for students, and staff and volunteers on hand to supervise.
