Sebastian Vettel was controversially denied an F1 victory in Canada because of a penalty dished out by the stewards. Then of Ferrari, the four-time world champion was coming under intense pressure from Lewis Hamilton when he slid off the track and went over the grass.
The German managed to stay in front of the Mercedes by squeezing his rival out of room on the outside. However, to his and Ferrari’s dismay, he was hit with five-second penalty for returning to the circuit unsafely and forcing another car off the track.
The incident gifted Hamilton victory, leaving Vettel so incensed he moved the number one board away from the Mercedes and in front of his own car in the pits ahead of the podium ceremony.“I had nowhere to go.
They are stealing the race from us,” he insisted at the time.A lot has happened, both in the world and F1 since then, but the punishment clearly still rankles with Vettel ahead of the sport’s first visit to the Montreal circuit since that weekend in June 2019.He couldn’t resist bringing it up in his interview with Channel 4 following his excellent sixth place for Aston Martin in the Azerbaijan Grand Prix on Sunday.
