Alexander Boris de Pfeffel Johnson Hon FRIBA (born 19 June 1964) is a British politician, writer, and former journalist serving as Prime Minister of the United Kingdom and Leader of the Conservative Party since 2019. He was Foreign Secretary from 2016 to 2018 and Mayor of London from 2008 to 2016. Johnson was Member of Parliament for Henley from 2001 to 2008 and has been MP for Uxbridge and South Ruislip since 2015. Ideologically, Johnson identifies as a one-nation conservative.

The body, which provides independent advice to the UK government, said the gap between disadvantaged and privileged children at school has widened further in the wake of the pandemic.In a State of the Nation report 2021 published on Tuesday, the organisation called for governments across the UK to act now to rescue the next generation from decades of hardship.Almost one in three children, 4.3 million, is now in child poverty, 700,000 more than 2012, the report reveals.

The report praised the Scottish Government’s £10 a week Scottish Child Payment to help low income families with children but also had criticism for Nicola Sturgeon.
