Scottish independence as men, the country's top pollster has said. The 2014 referendum on breaking away from the UK saw more men than women backing the Yes side - but that gender gap in attitudes has since largely vanished, according to recent opinion polls.
Sir John Curtice, a professor of politics at the University of Strathclyde, said the last nine surveys on independence had found support was roughly the same among both men and women.
Senior SNP figures were aware of a difference in attitudes ahead of the 2014 independence referendum and backed several initiatives aimed at convincing more women to support the cause.One opinion poll published last week put the Yes campaign at its highest ever level - 58% - and a breakdown of respondents.
