Scottish Government announces seven Covid deaths and 3,367 new cases overnight

coronavirus deaths and 3,367 new cases overnight. The death toll since last March – of people who first tested positive for the virus within the previous 28 days – now stands at 8,058.

There are currently 317 people in Scottish hospitals battling the virus, with 33 being treated in intensive care. Some 4,068,806 people have received the first dose of the Covid vaccination and 3,512,673 have received their second dose in Scotland.

The figures come as a new study found that the efficacy of the Pfizer coronavirus vaccine declines faster than the AstraZeneca jag.

Experts at the University of Oxford found that the level of protection provided by both vaccines after four to five months remained the same.
