Scottish Government announces 26 deaths and 4,917 Covid cases in last 24 hours

coronavirus deaths and 4,917 new cases overnight. The death toll since last March – of people who first tested positive for the virus within the previous 28 days – now stands at 8,319.

There are currently 1,054 people in Scottish hospitals battling the virus, with 94 being treated in intensive care. Some 4,146,847 people have received the first dose of the Covid vaccination and 3,791,597 have received their second dose in Scotland.

It comes after Scotland's national clinical director Professor Leitch announced there were no signs the TRNSMT music festival in Glasgow at the weekend has caused a big rise in Covid cases.
