Scottish Labour Party has called on the SNP government to use all its powers to tackle the poverty crisis caused by the covid pandemic.The plea came as the Joseph Rowntree Foundation reported that 230,000 children are currently living in poverty in Scotland and theAberlour Child Care Trust has recorded a 1000 per cent surge in demand for urgent assistance.Elaine Smith MSP, the Scottish Labour poverty spokeswoman, said the figures should galvanise the Scottish government into action.She said: “Hundreds of thousands of children are living in poverty every day and the pandemic has threatened to turn the situation into a humanitarian crisis.“This should shame us as a nation, and galvanise us to take action.
