The idea of using a call-centre based system to trace contacts of people infected by Covid-19 was suggested in February, new documents presented to the Scientific Advisory Group for Emergencies (Sage) reveal.
Newly published Sage papers also reveal that scientists called for the the loss of taste and smell to be added as a symptom in April - a month before it was officially added.
A paper by Kings College London on the loss of smell and taste in combination with other symptoms in reference to COVID-19 was considered at Sage on 16 April.
