Professor Peter Openshaw said scientists are "very concerned" after a cluster of South African new variant cases were discovered in London, the Mirror reports.

Vaccine chief Professor Anthony Harnden said scenes of people outside crowded pubs as England restrictions ease would "push rates up".

Some 44 cases of the South African variant have been found in Lambeth and Wandsworth with a further 30 probable cases identified, according to the Department of Health and Social Care.
