Sadio Mane has been told he risks ruining the next two years of his career by leaving Liverpool for Bayern Munich this summer. The Senegalese is set to complete his £35million move to join the Bundesliga giants, ending his six-year association with the Reds after signing from Southampton in 2016.

The deal could eventually be worth around £38m due to add-ons and individual awards.Jurgen Klopp was keen to retain the services of the 30-year-old after a phenomenal second half of the season, scoring 17 goals in total and registering seven assists in all competitions.

But Mane, with a year left on his contract, has opted to head for a new challenge in Germany. It is a rare occasion for a player of Mane’s talents to make the choice to leave Anfield, with the only other recent examples being Georginio Wijnaldum and Philippe Coutinho, who left for PSG and Barcelona respectively.

However, the pair have seen their careers nosedive since departing, and Dean Saunders believes Mane has made a huge error in judgement by deciding to go.“Why, for the life of me, I still can’t get my head round why you’d want to leave Liverpool right now when you are playing the best football of your career, the best combination front three you’ll ever play in, to play for Bayern Munich,” the talkSPORT pundit said. HAVE YOUR SAY: Is Sadio Mane making a mistake by turning his back on Liverpool?
