Ukrainians attempting to take back what's left of the besieged city of Mariupol are now having to fight a battle on two fronts - and they're doing it alongside their Russian occupiers.

The area has been one of Russian President Vladimir Putin's main targets, levelling around 85% of the city since his invasion of Ukraine began in February.

The world was shocked last month when images and video footage emerged from the city showing dead bodies lining the streets. And it is those bodies that are thought to have caused an outbreak of cholera among the living.Speaking to local radio station Radi Svboda, Mariupol Mayor Petro Andryushchenko said: “It is difficult to convey the reality of Mariupol regarding the bodies of the dead.“The bodies can not be buried or stored because the occupiers cannot cope with such an insane number”.“There is not enough power to even bury them in mass graves.“As far as we can record, we can say that the epidemic has basically begun. “It is very difficult to record the causes of death, but we know for sure that the death rate has not decreased, but rather is growing.” And the Russian soldiers could be facing a similar crisis, too.
