The Scottish Sun after appearing on crutches during wife Penny Lancaster's Lorraine interview he said: 'My football days are over.  'I have a bad ankle injury which I suffered from being tackled by my 15-year-old son.  'I can still kick a ball when needed though. ' Rod has become known for his support for the Glasgow-based football club Celtic FC over the years.

He went under the knife last October just months after a successful knee replacement operation and still occasionally uses crutches.

Rod has previously blamed his knee trouble on playing football games on 'bone dry' pitches in Los Angeles. He said: 'I'm suffering for it now.
