The smash, said to involve a car and a van, happened on Glossop Road in Charlesworth near Glossop at around 4pm. Locals said on social media the air ambulance had been seen landing nearby.
The road has been taped off since with a large number of police present as they deal with the aftermath and carry out enquiries.
