Steven George Gerrard MBE (born 30 May 1980) is an English professional football manager and former player who manages Scottish Premiership club Rangers.
He spent the majority of his playing career as a central midfielder for Liverpool, with most of that time spent as club captain, as well as captaining the England national team. Widely regarded as one of the greatest midfielders of all time,
Gerrard was awarded the UEFA Club Footballer of the Year award in 2005, and the Ballon d'Or Bronze Award. In 2009, Zinedine Zidane and Pelé said that they considered Gerrard to be the best footballer in the world.
Manchester United legend Rio Ferdinand said the image of Crystal Palace manager Patrick Vieira putting a pitch invader "on his bum” was “nice to see”.The Eagles boss was recently told he would not face FA charges, after he appeared to strike out and kick a pitch invader who had confronted him on the pitch following Everton's survival clinching 3-2 home victory over Palace.
This altercation followed the nasty assault of Sheffield United ace Billy Sharp, who required stitches after Nottingham Forrest fan Robert Biggs headbutted him after their play-off final clash.Biggs recently pleaded guilty to occasioning actual bodily harm and was subsequently sentenced to 24 weeks in jail.
And after Aston Villa goalkeeper Robin Olsen was also “assaulted” by a pitch invading fan after Manchester City’s title clinching victory over Steven Gerrard’s side, Ferdinand said the image of Vieira putting a pitch invader on his bum was “nice to see”.“Vieira put him (pitch invader) on the floor which was nice to see,” Ferdinand said to the Vibe with Five podcast. “It was nice to see, I’ll be honest, as much as it’s wrong on one hand, Vieira was protecting himself.“He should be embarrassed, because Vieira, in a pair of shoes, put him on his bum.” While the image of jubilant fans invading the pitch is not new, the recent incidents have put a firm microscope over the issue. And this attention is certainly no matter, as many have warned that the assaults seen on Olsen and Sharp could potentially give way to more serious injuries.
