Remembrance Sunday events will be exempt from coronavirus rules banning gatherings in areas worst hit by coronavirus. New laws, published late on Monday, allow events to commemorate the fallen on 8 November to go ahead in "very high risk" tier areas, such as Merseyside.
Veterans, members of the armed forces and volunteers will be allowed to attend Remembrance events under regulations governing Boris Johnson's new three-tier lockdown system.
Spectators can watch if they come alone or if they are from a participating group. The regulations say organisers must carry out risk assessments to make sure events are safe and "reasonable measures" to limit the risk of transmission are in place.
