It was later confirmed that Amaya, who had over 20 years' worth of refereeing experience, had succumbed to the injuries and passed away.The Salvadoran Football Federation has since issued a statement condemning the assault, which read: "As a federation, we condemn all acts of violence that are being generated in the different sporting venues in the country".
President of the SFF, Hugo Carillo, also took to national television to castigate those involved in the attack on Amaya."As a Federation, we repudiate what happened to referee Jose Arnoldo Amaya," Carillo told El Tiki Taka. "And we trust that the authorities can find those responsible for taking the referee’s life."Amaya isn't the only official to have been targeted following an on-field decision.
