Rats 'chase children' in street where rotting rubbish has piled up for 10 years

Super-size rats feast on piles of putrid rubbish and chase children in a city street which has become an unofficial dump. A mound of rotting waste is creating such a stench residents are forced to close their windows, while enforcement signs are ripped off lampposts by fly tippers.

Shakespeare Street in Sparkhill, Birmingham, has deteriorated over the past 10 years and resident Razwan Ahmed is on a mission to change his childhood neighbourhood.

The 30-year-old said: "A few weeks ago my road was smelling. It's really bad. People are dumping on mass. I have been living in this property since I was five years old and it's been an issue for the past ten years, he explains.
