Rare L.S. Lowry painting of auction estimated to sell for huge price... at auction

The only painting from L.S. Lowry to depict an auction room will go up for auction at Sotheby’s next month with an estimation of up to £1.8 million.

1958’s ‘The Auction’ has never been offered at auction before and was acquired by its current owners more than two decades ago.

The painting by the Stretford -born artist was first exhibited at Manchester Art Gallery in 1959 as part of a retrospective exhibition.
