Rapist Wendell Baker - convicted under 'double jeopardy' law - to be freed

Wendell Baker is set to be released from prison less than seven years after being jailed for life for raping a pensioner. Baker beat and raped 66-year-old Hazel Backwell after breaking into her home in Stratford, east London, while she was sleeping.

He tied her hands behind her back and raided her house before leaving her trapped in a cupboard in the brutal attack in 1997.

The monster was originally found not guilty after a judge ruled his trial could not proceed in 1999. However after double jeopardy laws changed in 2005 he was retried and found guilty in 2013.
