Rangers legend Walter Smith is currently recovering in hospital after an operation early this week. Speculation was rife on social media in recent days that the 73-year-old had passed away, with thousands paying tribute to the former Scotland boss.

However, the Twitter rumours were not to be believed - with Rangers releasing a short statement to settle the matter on Saturday afternoon. "Rangers Football Club can confirm Walter Smith had an operation on Monday and he is currently recovering in hospital," it read."His family have requested privacy at this time."Smith recently spoke out regarding Rangers' title win, lauding Steven Gerrard's achievement.
