The Brazilian full-back was a regular under Sir Alex Ferguson during the 2012/13 title winning campaign and the following season under David Moyes, but lost his place to Antonio Valencia under the Dutch coach in 2014 following his arrival after the World Cup.
Rafael would make only 11 appearances throughout the season before leaving for Olympique Lyonnais in Ligue 1. He has spoken in the past about his relationship with Van Gaal not being the best but now in his new autobiography
