Queen is expected to personally open her first pub on the Sandringham estate. If the plans are given the green light, it will mean the monarch, who celebrates her Platinum Jubilee next week, will have her own boozer just a mile away from the royal Sandringham House, Norfolk.
The pub is in a space that used to be a former social club before it closed down during the coronavirus pandemic. Sandringham is privately owned by the Queen and the estate plans on leasing the building for conversion into a pub while retaining the freehold.
The building is 4,350sq feet and was opened by the Queen's great grandfather, King Edward VII, back in 1884. It had been the home of the Sandringham Club, but the social club closed down in 2020 citing "the effects of the pandemic and the decline in membership".
The pub has been labelled a "destination public house" by estate agent Landles who are trying to find a tenant for the empty building.
