The Queen will turn 95 on Wednesday 21 April, but there will be no gun salute to mark the occasion.This is the second consecutive year where the traditional 41-gun and 21-gun salutes in Hyde Park and the Tower of London will not take place.
Why will the gun salute not take place on the Queen’s birthday? The gun salute was cancelled last year as a result of the coronavirus pandemic with the Queen requesting that no “special measures” were taken, and they will not go ahead this year for that same reason.The Queen is also believed to be reluctant to celebrate her birthday this year too, following the recent passing of her husband Prince Philip.
