The Queen has returned to her late husband Prince Philip's Wood Cottage for the first time without him, to her mark her father's passing.

While she usually spends the festive period at Sandringham, the 95 year old, who "declined to have restrictions eased" at Philip's funeral, has been at Windsor Castle since autumn last year due to the threat of Covid.

But the Monarch has now made the special pilgrimage to Norfolk by helicopter and then a short drive in preparation to mark the 70th anniversary of her father George VI's death. "Everything is being put in order for the Queen's visit," a source told the Mail On Sunday.

They added: "We've been told that she will stay at Wood Farm, rather than the main house, which is nice as that always had a special place in his heart." This will mark Her Majesty's first stay in the cottage since Philip's death in April last year.
