While masks are being scrapped in secondary schools and colleges nationally, that won't be the case everywhere because of concerns over the Indian variant.

With cases rising in Bolton, the council says a number of schools have already stated they will continue with face masks after restrictions ease.

And in neighbouring Bury, the authority has written to schools to ask them to keep using face coverings until further notice.
